The writer was then asked to state what he/she wanted the critique to focus on. Then the moderator would ask the assembles if there were any questions before beginning critique. Next, the questions would be fielded by the moderator. In some workshops the writer was allowed to respond, in others not. I think the writer should be allowed to respond for often that exchange can lead to some new insights.
