Re: | Bolognese Breeder Wanted | Ad: | First: NEVER play with a dog with your bare hands. When you do, you teach them it's ok to bite the hands. Always play with a dog with a rope toy or other favorite toy. If you aerlady have established the hands as being a chew toy then use a product like Bitter Apple or Bitter Yuck on your hands to make them unpalatable. If you trust your dog enough, you can also grab the tongue and SLIGHTLY squeeze it when they bite. Remember how much fun it was when your mother would grab your tongue when you'd stick it out at your brother/sister, same principle.Second: NEVER play with a dog, that nips at the face, face to face. Wild dogs as well as domestic ones play with each other by biting; ears, noses, mouths, whatever it's what they do. By putting your face down there you are imitating another dog and how another dog would play so of course your dog will want to bite your face. On that note you also shouldn't growl at your dog face to face. You are considered to be challenging him/her and with a dog that nips you will get bit.Third: Tug O War is ok to play with a dog. A lot of people think it brings out aggression in dogs but aggression breeds aggression. If you hit your dog he will bite you or someone else. When you play Tug O War, you win and then let your dog win. Do this back and forth. It actually helps with your dogs self confidence. |
