More than two thirds of our gross £168m income in 2011/12 came from our trading activities, including our 440-plus high street charity shops. These activities are run as a social enterprise on commercial lines to improve life for older people. Once the running costs of the business arm are deducted, net profits – which last year totalled £30m – are gift-aided back to the Age UK charity.
