When the nest reaches 33C the hen lays her eggs. The male keeps the nest at the same temperature. If it’s too hot he uncovers the eggs to let the air cool them. When the temperature drops in the autumn, he opens the mound in the morning, so it’s warmed by sunlight, and closes it in the evening.
