Re: | Dandie Dinmont Terrier Stud Dog | Ad: | I understand what you are going throguh. When my West Highland Terrier was about 2 years old (he\'s now 7), we went throguh an exhaustive allergy period that lasted for over 2 years. After all the tests were done, OTC kibble changes and numerous steroid shots (which damages the liver), I took Remy to a holistic vet and I followed her recommendation to add more Omega 3, fish oil, etc. to treat his itchy symptoms internally from the cellular level. We started using a vet-food formula called Life Abundance (I purchase it on-line from PetNet) and I add a teaspoon of canned pink salmon to his daily kibble. He\'s also given a food supplement (chewable tablet). His hot-spots are cleaned first with hydrogen peroxide then I apply a topical hydocortisone creme. Remy\'s bathed 2-3 times per month (when the outbreak was severe), using a shampoo mitt a vet prescribed prednisone shampoo leave-in conditioner. Later we switched to \'s Baby Shampoo. Also his bedding, car seat, etc was washed often to eliminate/reduce his irritation to mites, grass, etc. (Yes my dog was allergic to grass. I\'d have to wipe his paws after each walk or trip to the park)!!The good news slowly we started to see a reduction in skin eruptions after about month 2 or 3. I think it began with the food change. Now, after suffering with him for 2+ years and sizable vet bills, his allergy eruptions are minimal and only appear during the South Florida spring/summer season change. Good Luck. |
