Re: | English Setter Stud Dog | Ad: | Great advice! I'm in.The post also made me think about anhoter step I'd add to the process I'd like to be more honest in setting my goals. I think sometimes the dissatisfaction with goals and goal setting comes from not being honest about what we want in the first place. For example, is the goal *really* to get in shape and be healthy or is it to lose weight? I might say I want to get in shape, because I think that's a better goal than just losing weight. But if what I really what is to fit into those jeans I bought before I was pregnant I might end the year with better cardio-vascular health (and thus have gotten into shape) but I'll probably still be disappointed because secretly I really just wanted to wear those jeans again.Maybe being honest about what we want can be a segue to an internal conversation about whether the goal is within our power. It's much easier to work toward a goal if we're honest about what it is otherwise even if we reach the goal, we might be dissatisfied because it wasn't what we really wanted.Honestly? I want to find an agent this year. Your great point above made me think about whether that will be within my control. Probably not. Not really. I need to adjust my goal to something that's within my control maybe revise my MS to make it the best I can, write a great pitch and persevere through the query process. But now I've been honest about what I want and consciously thought about whether it's possible for me to control. Hopefully, I'll be able to be proud of the productive steps I take toward me goal and be satisfied when I achieve my realistic goal instead of disappointed because I secretly had anhoter goal in mind that I couldn't admit. |
