These are really two different media. The experience of reading information from a laptop screen in quiet room with no other distractions is very different from trying to read the same infromation while in a large group, with lights, a stage, and a speaker at a podium to divert your attention. Slides for a large audience shoud be more conceptual. Laying out sheets of data is seldomly as effetive at conveying a concept as would be a simple quote or perhaps a cartoon or a photo. This may require more creative thought, but the end result would allow the speaker to better connect with his audience. And the audience is more likely to walk away with something they'll remember.Less data more creativity.
