And the farther we drove, the more beautiful it became. Our car hugged the coast as we snapped around hairpin bends with the crashing Pacific on one side, hillsides blooming with wild flowers on the other, passing sea stacks, oyster shacks, piers and towns that probably didn’t even have room for the one horse.
