Then, in 1993, he gained a ‘Bourse Lavoisier’ scholarship, awarded by the French Ministry of Culture, to attend the School of American Ballet. From the beginning, he says, he was ‘putting on music and making dances. That was why choreography made so much sense to me. I knew I wanted to do it all along.’
