A community of history educators has powerfully and passionately laid out a case, drawn from evidence mostly based on classroom practice, and convinced the minister to change his plans. The message that politicians, even those with wilful reputations, will listen to front line staff where the case is compellingly made is interesting. The success of history educators could be contrasted with the failure of more hysterical campaigns about pay and pensions; the value of evidence, professionalism and reason is evident.
