But the critique wins out, and the point is pressed with wonderful visual inventivness. Take the opening image: four boules balls roll onto an empty stage. The last goes awry. Henry walks on, picks it up and puts it down next to the cochon. Then he puts the other balls down his pants. He breaks the rules to win, then breaks the game for good measure. This territorial tantrum is as sharp a stage image as you’ll see in ages – and it’s in a kids show. How brilliant is that?
