Please don't purchase your Briard from a petstore which commonly are known to support Briard puppy mills. Doing so only promotes inproper breeding ethics and promotes current Briard health issues. The AKC, UKC, FCI, CKC, SKC, WWKC, FIC registries recognize the Briard breed standard.

Country of Origin:
France; created from crossing smaller herding breeds with the giant livestock guarding breeds of the area. Also saw duty as an ammunition carrier and Red Cross service dog during WW1. Brought to the US in 1777 by the Marquis de Lafayette to herd sheep. .
Character:
This dog is tough, brave, alert, and loyal. It does not like teasing.
Temperment:
With proper training and socialization, the Briard is a great pet that exists happily with other pets. However, it can be slightly aggressive toward other dogs, and is suspicious of strangers.
Coat:
Hair is long and wavy with a light undercoat. Can be a variety of colors, but white and chestnut are not allowed.
Care
Weekly grooming with a brush and comb is required. The ears must also be kept clean.

All uniform colors except white--black, fawn, grey, or tawny
