Country of Origin:
Great Britain - Developed from European spitz dogs, smallest member. Originally larger (up to 30 pounds). Brought to North America around the turn of the century. Named for Pomerania once a part of Germany. Introduced into Britain as a larger dog, it was not popular until selective breeding miniaturized it after a few generations. Now one of the most popular toy sized dogs.
Character:
This energetic dog is intelligent, eager to learn, and very loyal to its family.
Temperment:
This dog gets along well with other dogs and household pets. However, it will not enjoy too much attention from children.
Coat:
Colors are orange, black, brown, white, or grey. The hair is long and straight, with a thick undercoat.
Care
The coat should be combed every three weeks followed by light brushing. Excessive grooming will damage the undercoat.
