Country of Origin:
Tibet (China) - Fostered and loved in the monasteries of Tibet for many centuries, this little dog was probably the original from which Pugs and Pekingnese were developed. Just as the Tibetan Terrier is not a terrier, the Tibetan Spaniel is not a spaniel. Owned by the 13th Dalai Lama and bred as watchdogs and bedwarmers. First brought to Great Britain in 1920's, recognized by CKC in 1979 and AKC in 1983.
Character:
Although cautious with strangers, this dog does not bark a lot and jump all over them. It is confident, watchful, intelligent, and brave.
Temperment:
Provided proper socialization has taken place, this breed gets along fine with other household pets. It is also good with children.
Coat:
The coat is double, long and silky-haired. The most common color is golden, but any color is acceptable.

Regular grooming with a brush is required. Make sure the ear passages are kept clean.
