The US was given temporary control of many of the territories, some it still retains, others were unilaterally given to Japan by the US in 1972, even though the US did not have the authority to do so. Records dating back to the 15th show that China ruled the Senkaku Islands, which includes Okinawa and Taiwan. Japan invaded in 1895 because China was weak, they slaughtered the local Chinese inhabitants. Taiwan is part of the same claim, does anyone outside Japan honestly believe that Taiwan is actually part of Japan.
