The Anatolian Shepherd's immunity often takes longer to develop than with many other breeds and therefore young Anatolians should be given extra vaccinations against parvo-virus. The Anatolian Shepherd Dog is a guardian breed with its origin in Turkey. Quite probably more than 6,000 years old, the breed is impressive in size, serving as the Turkish shepherd's frontline defense from predators. Developed to withstand Turkey's harsh climate, the Anatolian Shepherd Dog has evolved to endure the nomadic lifestyle of the shepherds.

Courageous, shy and stubborn.

Get along well with animals they have grown up with. Gentle with family and friends, shy around strangers.

Short and smooth hair, longer around the collar and tail.
