Country of Origin:
France - The earliest record as a breed dates back to 1578. They were originally hunters of wild boar, these dogs turned to livestock guarding, and herding and eventually to military/police dogs.
Character:
Beaucerons are intelligent, calm, obedient and faithful. They are working dogs with a strong instinct for herding.
Temperment:
Beaucerons are sociable with other dogs however are very territorial and do not tolerate intruders. They are good with children provideed that they have been brought up around them.
Coat:
The outer coat is coarse, straight and dense. It should lie flat and be medium-length. The undercoat is dense.Colors can be harlequin with patches of grey, black, and tan or black and tan.
Care
Occasional grooming and brushing, particularly during times when it is shedding.
