Country of Origin:
Brazil - Ancestors were brought to Brazil by the Portuguese conquistadores and the breed was created in the 19th century from Mastiff and Bullenbeisser stock, crossbred with Bloodhound. Used for protection, to hunt jaguars and track runaway slaves. .
Character:
The Fila Brasileiro is courageous, determined and very faithful.
Temperment:
This breed is obedient toward its family. It is tolerant of strangers but makes an effective guardian of property.
Coat:
Is smooth, short and close to the skin. All colors are permitted except white, mouse grey, patches, dappled, or black and tan.
Care
Regular grooming with a brush and comb is required.
