Country of Origin: Italy - Developed during Roman times in Italy exclusively as a lap dog. Smallest of the Greyhound breeds, originating in Egypt about 2,000 years ago. Brought to Italy by Roman soldiers. Reportedly brought to Britain during the reign of Charles I. .

Character: Italian Greyhounds are affectionate, cheerful, active and intelligent.

Temperment: This dog gets along well with other dogs and cats. It gets along with children, provided that they know not to treat the dog as a toy. They get along very well with each other, and it is a good idea to have more than one.

Coat: Consists of fine, short hair. The color is often slate, black, or greyish yellow, occasionally with white on the chest and feet. There are flecked versions, but not all countries consider them acceptable.

Care Very little grooming is required. Wipe the dog with a cloth to make the coat shine, and check the teeth regularly for tartar. Until it is eighteen months old, the bones are quite fragile and it can break a leg rather easily.

Colour: All shades of fawn, red, mouse, blue, cream, and white

Comments: Easy to care for, clean, quiet dogs. Definitely house dogs. Need gentle care. Has all the sporting instincts of the Whippet. Fits nicely into the smallest home. Devoted, enjoying a run and not nearly as fragile as its looks imply say their owners. .
