Country of Origin:
Great Britain though it descends from Europe - The original pointing dog, probably developed around 1650. This is one of the oldest recorded pointing breeds and is probably the breed from which most other pointing breeds have derived as it is most efficient. Major arkwright credited with the creation of the modern Pointer which is faster with greater scent ability. Considered th emost efficient of the sporting breeds. Believed to have derived from Greyhound, Setter and Foxhound.
Character:
Pointers are gentle, sweet and kind, but may a bit too boisterous for small children. They are very loyal and love their family but can be somewhat reserved around strangers.
Temperment:
This dog needs the companionship of its family. It gets along very well with other dogs and household pets.
Coat:
Short and dense. Possible colors are liver, lemon, black, or orange and can either be solid or mixed with white.
Care
Occasional brushing to remove dead hair is required.
