Country of Origin:
USA - Developed from crossing Smooth Fox Terrier and Manchester Terrier in England in 1820. Brought to the USA in 1890's and again crossed with Smooth Fox Terrier, as well as Beagle and Whippet. .
Character:
This dog is affectionate, uncomplicated, gentle, intelligent, and sensitive, and fearless.
Temperment:
The Rat Terrier has sometimes been described as having a dual personality. He is a fearless, tenacious hunter with seemingly unlimited energy. When he is not hunting, however, the Rat Terrier is an exceptionally friendly companion, getting along well with children, other dogs, and even cats.
Coat:
The coat is short, dense, and smooth, with a sheen. Whiskers are not removed.
Care
When it is shedding, use a rubber brush to remove dead hairs.
