Country of Origin:
Great Britain - Developed around 1900 as a natural flushing spaniel. Thought to have descended from red and white dogs of pre-Roman times when the Gauls entered Wales. It was indigenous to Wales as invaders in the 9th century. Possibly the result of crossing the Schipperke and Pomeranian which were both brought to Permbrokeshire, Wales in the 12th century by Flemish weavers. The Lancaster Heeler may have been a contributor.
Character:
The Welsh Springer Spaniel is steady and easygoing. It is an independent breed, yet very devoted to its family.

This breed is somewhat reserved, even timid, around strangers. It is good with children, and gets along fine with other household pets, provided proper socialization has taken place.

Flat and straight, dense enough to protect it from the weather. Colors are rich red and white.

Brush the coat once or twice a week.
